New UN Envoy Takes over Post, Vows UN Commitment to Libya’s Stability and Prosperity.

Tripoli, 10 February 2021(Lana) UN new Envoy to Libya Jan Kubis, Head of UN Support Mission in Libya UNSMIL has started his mission by conducting telephone contacts with Libyan parties, voicing UN commitment to the stability and sovereignty and prosperity of Libya.

According to a report posted to the UNSMIL SMS page, Kubis phoned the Head of Presidency Council Fayez Al Serraj, GNA Foreign Minister Mohamed Siala, and also the Speaker of Parliament Ageela Saleh, all focused on the current situation following the Political Forum meeting in Switzerland and the way forward.

The UN Envoy held telephone discussion with the new Head of Presidency Council Mohamed Al Mnefi and the Head of Government Abdul Hamid Dbiaba on the best way to ensure a smooth transition of power to the new government.

 Kubis indicated that the new Head of Government intended to set up a widely representative government within the time framework set in the roadmap adopted by the Libyan Political Forum, which would reflect the diversity and richness of Libyan society with all its components women and the youth, to address the pressing issues including national reconciliation and the elections on DEC.24.2021.

The UN Envoy stressed UN commitment to the stability and prosperity of Libya and to build on the positive developments of the last months regarding political, security and economic issues, including and foremost the Libyan-led ceasefire agreement.

The UN Envoy also made some contacts with high-ranking representatives of regional and international communities.
