Commissioner for Peace and Security in African Union appeals to Libyans to rally around new executive authority.
Pulbished on:Addis Ababa, 7 February 2021 (Lana) - The Commissioner for Peace and Security in the African Union, Ismail Sharqi, appealed to all Libyans to rally around the new authority and provide support for it to move steadily towards general elections and national reconciliation.
Sharqi, in a tweet on his Twitter account Saturday, welcomed the election of the interim executive authority in Libya, considering this achievement a crucial step to return Libya to the path of peace, stability and unity.
The Libyan Political Dialogue Forum had voted, Friday, in Geneva, Switzerland, in the second round of the ballot, in favor of choosing a new interim government and choosing a new presidential council headed by Muhammad Yunus Al-Manfi and the membership of Musa Al-Koni and Abdullah Hussein Al-Lafi in addition to choosing "Abdel-Hamid." Mohammed Dabaiba, president of the national unity government. The vote comes as part of a UN-led peacemaking effort aimed at holding presidential and parliamentary elections on December 24.
