Libyan Political Dialogue Meeting Gets Underway in Geneva, Williams Calls for Commitment to Fairness, Cooperation and Love of homeland.
Pulbished on:Geneva, 1 February 2021(Lana) The Libyan Political Dialogue Forum got underway here on Monday to select the executive authority from a host of candidates to the presidency Council and the Government.
The UN Special Representative Stephanie Williams highlighted in the opening remarks commitment of the members of the Forum to serve Libya, saying Libyans will not forget the sacrifices that the participants in the Forum have made since they endorsed the roadmap in Tunis.
‘You have made significant progress in serving the people of Libya through a united Libya and restoration of democracy and national reconciliation.
The process of selecting the executive authority is by no means elections but an experiment that deserve to respected, and would not have happened had the guns not been silenced.
She paid tribute to the 3 member Verification Committee for the good results of their work, and the diversity which reflected by the candidates.
‘You are about to put in place an exclusive Libyan-type fingerprint, and the UN will stand by you, and will strive to ensure respect by the international community of the decisions you are about to make.
The meeting then started listening to answers by the candidates to questions put forward to them.
