Foreign Ministry welcomes the appointment of Jan Kubis as the UN envoy to Libya.

Tripoli, January 26, 2021 (Lana) - The Foreign Ministry of the Government of National Accord welcomed the appointment of "Jan Kubis" as the UN envoy to Libya.

The Ministry affirmed in a statement today, Tuesday, its readiness to cooperate with him to make his tasks in the UN mission a success in order to establish the foundations of security and stability and the success of the Libyan political dialogue process.

In its statement, the ministry said that it is very pleased with the new envoy because of the good international reputation he enjoys, as he is a veteran politician who worked as Minister for Foreign Affairs of his country, Slovakia, Secretary-General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the European Council.

Kubis also held the position of head of the United Nations mission in Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Iraq and Lebanon, and what he did during his tenure had positive effects on the march of those countries towards peace and stability.

The ministry expressed its wishes for the new envoy for success in performing his duties at the head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.
