65 Million to Support Elections in
Libya.
Tripoli, 26 November 2017(Lana) The Dutch Government has pledged
$1.65 million to support the electoral program sponsored by the UN
Development Program in Libya which aims to upgrade the Libyan
Election Commission capabilities to run elections in the country.
The UN Mission website said the Dutch Ambassador to Libya Erik
Striating along with the Deputy Representative of the UN Secretary
General and the resident Repre4sentative of the UN Development
Program Maria Robeiro recently signed an agreement to support UN
electoral project in Libya.
By virtue of the agreement, the Dutch Government promised to
provide $ 1.65 million for the UN electoral fund to boost the Libyan
election commission capacity to hold elections.
The Dutch Ambassador said 'for elections to be free and fair some
technical, political and security components should be there, and I
do not think either is available today, thus we want to support the
commission prepare well for a fair and transparent election.'
