Al-Koni and Al-Lafi meet with ambassadors of several European countries.

Tripoli, June 17, 2025 (LANA) – Members of the Presidential Council, Musa Al-Koni and Abdullah Al-Lafi, met today, Tuesday, with ambassadors of several European countries accredited to Libya to review developments in Libya and discuss prospects for political partnership with European countries at this critical stage.

During the meeting, the two representatives emphasized that partnership with Europe represents a fundamental pillar in supporting the Libyan political process. They emphasized the importance of strengthening constructive cooperation on existing international tracks, most notably the Berlin process, in order to reach a comprehensive political settlement that paves the way for elections and moves the country toward lasting stability.

The Presidential Council called for a more visible and effective European role focused on supporting reconciliation efforts, restoring confidence between political parties, and supporting the Presidential Council as a unifying body representing the three regions and possessing the necessary capabilities. The ability to create a national balance that leads to sustainable consensus.

The ambassadors expressed their full support for the Presidential Council in its efforts to achieve a just political settlement and commended its commitment to supporting the efforts of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and its diligent work to implement the outcomes of the Advisory Committee, as a suitable basis for concluding the transitional phases and preparing the conditions for holding elections.

The two sides emphasized the need to unify state institutions and ensure their independence, as a foundation for building an effective, unified state under the authority of a single government that embodies national consensus.

The Council members emphasized the importance of expanding coordination with European countries to address common challenges, most notably illegal migration, terrorism, and organized crime. They also emphasized the need to establish a joint mechanism to expel mercenaries and foreign forces from all Libyan territory, and to support efforts to combat corruption and smuggling through a comprehensive national approach based on transparency and consecrating the sovereignty of the Libyan state.
