Tripoli, May 13, 2025 (LANA) - The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbaiba, decided to form an emergency committee to monitor the conditions of prisons and detention centers. The committee will be chaired by the Minister of Interior and include the Undersecretary General of the Ministry of Justice and a representative of the Supreme Judicial Council.
According to the decision issued today, Tuesday, the committee is tasked with monitoring conditions inside prisons and detention centers, verifying compliance with humanitarian standards and proper treatment.
According to the decision, the committee will review the legality of arrest and detention procedures, ensure compliance with the orders of the Public Prosecution and the judiciary, and monitor cases of detainees without legal basis or those against whom final release orders have not been executed.
The committee will also investigate any unlawful procedures in the implementation of judicial rulings, or the unjustified detention of citizens.
The decision granted the committee the authority to enter all prisons and detention centers in various regions, seek assistance from relevant authorities, and request full cooperation from any party. According to the decision, the committee will submit a detailed report to the Cabinet within a maximum period of seven days from the date of commencement of its work, including the necessary observations and recommendations.
