A Libyan delegation headed by the Minister of Local Government meets in Berlin with two members of the German Parliament

Tripoli, March 8, 2023 (LANA) – A Libyan delegation headed by the Minister of Local Government of the Government of National Unity, Badreddine Toumi, met Wednesday, in Berlin, with members of the German Federal Parliament, Julius Kronberg and Karamba Diaby.

The Libyan delegation included the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Omar Katti, the Chargé d'Affairs of the Libyan Embassy in Germany, Ihab Al-Halbous, the Minister's Adviser for International Cooperation Affairs, the mayors of Shahat, Al-Manshiya and Ghadames, and the Director of the Women's Empowerment Office.

The meeting discussed a number of issues, including Germany's efforts to support stability in Libya through the Berlin tracks, bilateral cooperation files, municipal support, economic cooperation, renewable energy and women's empowerment.

The Ministry of Local Government said that Minister Al-Toumi confirmed the government's readiness to hold elections, and touched on its efforts to protect irregular migrants, and the urgent need for an international and regional strategy to help Libya overcome the migrant crisis.

During the meeting, the Minister of Local Government also touched on the achievements of the Government National Unity in the field of activating local administration by empowering municipalities with their specializations, activating local revenues, and allocating funds for development in the past three years.

  The meeting reviewed the efforts led by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Government of National Unity to develop universities and research centers in Libya, and the file of supporting and developing women in municipalities in cooperation with a German institution.

For his part, Julius Kronberg affirmed the support of the German Parliament to strengthen the partnership with Libya through the German Friendship Group with the Maghreb countries, which is chaired by "Kronberg".

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Libyan and German sides agreed to continue communication to enhance aspects of existing cooperation and open new horizons that allow achieving an effective and sustainable partnership between the two countries.
