Pulbished on:

Tripoli, March 2, 2023 (LANA) - The US Embassy in Libya urged the main Libyan leaders to engage with the plan of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, "Abdullah Batili" to hold elections in Libya in a constructive manner.

The embassy said in tweets on its Twitter account that the proposal of the envoy, "Batili", stimulates the Libyan political body and will build on the progress made by both the House of Representatives and the High Council of State in reaching a legal basis for the elections.

The US embassy added that such a moment is an opportunity for all key leaders in Libya to show that they are truly dedicated to serving the needs of the Libyan people.

The proposal of the UN envoy for the elections, Abdullah Batili, includes "the establishment of a high-level steering committee for Libya" that brings together Libyan stakeholders, including representatives of political institutions, the most important political figures, tribal leaders, civil society organizations, security parties, women and youth.

According to the proposal, the committee will facilitate the adoption of a legal framework and a roadmap with a timetable for the elections, in addition to a platform to promote consensus on related issues such as election security and the adoption of a code of conduct for all candidates.
