France calls on Libyan parties to avoid acts of violence and to finalize the constitutional basis necessary for the holding of elections.

 Tripoli, 31 August 2022 (Lana) France has called on the Libyan parties to finalize the constitutional basis necessary to hold elections without delay.

 This came in a speech delivered by the French UN Permanent Representative at the Security Council meeting on Tuesday on the situation in Libya.

In her speech, the French delegate called for a dialogue between the main security parties and for the process of implementing the plan for the withdrawal of foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya.

"Paris has followed with concern return of tension to Libya and the violence that has erupted in Tripoli over the past two days, considering it an evidence of the unsustainable situation," she said.

 France renewed its call on the Libyan parties to reach a sustainable political solution, which requires establishment of a unified and inclusive government capable of exercising its powers over the entire country, stressing the need to continue to resume oil production and distribute its revenues equitably among Libyans.
