Tripoli, 24 July, 2022 (Lana) - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya has expressed its concern over the ongoing harassment, restrictions and acts of violence against lawyers.

It pointing out that six lawyers were either assaulted, arrest or arbitrary detained during the past six months. It also said lawyer Abdullah Ali Farhat was beaten on July 18 in Tripoli Court.

In a series of tweets on its website, UNSMIL said; "These lawyers play an essential role in the pursuit of justice, stressing that under Libyan law they should be protected from arrest, detention and other legal procedures while performing their official duty."

The UN mission called for a full and independent investigation into these attacks, which targeted workers in the legal profession, and to hold the perpetrators accountable.
