Head of Sanctions Committee briefs Security Council on situation in Libya.

Tripoli, 27 June, 2022 (Lana) - The United Nations Security Council website reported, Sunday, that Chairman of the Security Council’s Sanctions Committee is to brief the Council, Monday, on the situation in Libya in his capacity as Chairman of the Sanctions Committee imposed by Resolution No. (1970) and in view of the failure to appoint a new envoy to Libya.

According to the website, India's delegate to the council will give a briefing on the activities of the committee. The Council is expected to vote on a draft resolution that renews for a year, the authorization of members working at the national level or through regional organizations to inspect ships on the high seas or off the Libyan coast, if there are reasonable grounds to believe that they are violating the arms embargo on Libya.

The current mandate to search expires on the 3rd of June, and the annual report of the Secretary-General on the implementation of the measures was issued on April 28th.
