Coast guards recover bodies of four migrants and rescue thirteen others in the northwest of the country.

Tripoli, 25 May, 2022 (Lana) - The naval forces managed to retrieve the bodies of four migrants, three women and a man, and rescue thirteen others after a boat carrying illegal immigrants capsized in the northwest of the country.

The Protocol and Information Office, headed by the Staff of the Libyan Naval Forces, stated in a post on its official page that the patrol boat of the Coast Guard and Port Security, headed by the Staff of the Naval Forces, managed to rescue (17) migrants, including 4 bodies and 3 missing persons who were on their way to European shores.

 The office added in its statement that the boat, whose total number of migrants was not known, capsized off the coast of Mellitah, west of Tripoli. He pointed out that as soon as the rescue operation was completed, the migrants were disembarked at the Malita point and handed over to the competent authorities, stressing that the Migration Control Agency will follow up, within the framework of its humanitarian role, the process of caring for these migrants and completing the procedures for their safe deportation to their countries.
