Tobruk, 24 May, 2022 (Lana) - Chairman of the Internal Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, Suleiman Al-Harari, expressed the committee's deep dissatisfaction with the situation of Libyan travelers to Egypt through the Salloum land port, expressing his regret and astonishment at the bad and degrading treatment that the Libyan citizens were subjected to at the Salloum port at the hands of Egyptian authorities responsible for the port, which rise to insult the Libyan homeland and the Libyan state, adding that these authorities did not exclude even humanitarian cases that require special treatment.

Al-Harari deplored the Egyptian authorities' imposition of new fees for entry to Libyans through the port, stressing that the Libyans' travel brings large sums of money to the Egyptian side, and that imposing these exorbitant fees for Libyans' travel is not commensurate with the depth of the historical relations between the two countries.

In a statement published on the official page of the Council, Al-Harari called on the Libyan authorities not to be drawn into and take retaliatory reactions against the Egyptian citizens in Libya, and that the treatment should be in accordance with the correct law and full respect for them.

Intensifying work with the Egyptian side to improve conditions at the port, cancel the recently imposed fees, and provide the best conditions that respect the dignity of the Libyan citizen.

The head of the Internal Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives appealed to the Egyptian authorities to take urgent measures regarding what is happening at the Salloum port, noting that the continuation of these conditions will have a negative impact on the relations between the two brotherly countries.
