Tripoli, May 22, 2022 (LANA) - The National Center for Disease Control announced today, Sunday, that no confirmed or suspected cases of Monkeypox have been recorded so far, and infectious disease departments in hospitals have not reported a case in Libya.

In a video recording posted on its official Facebook page, the center confirmed that its general manager, Haider al-Sayeh, assigned a committee at the center to follow up on the developments of this disease.

The center stressed the need to communicate with the monitoring and investigation teams at the National Center for Disease Control in the event that a rash appears after a few days of fever and high temperature, with swollen lymph nodes, especially for those returning from travel within 21 days.

The National Center for Disease Control also advised the need to avoid contact with others when suffering from a high temperature or the appearance of a rash.

The center said that Monkeypox recently appeared in a number of countries, mostly European, but it is an old disease that was first diagnosed in 1958 in monkey laboratories in Denmark, and this is the reason for the name, but it affects many animals and is not specific to monkeys.

He explained that the symptoms of this disease are similar to that of chickenpox - known as "Abushoka", and it takes its time and ends in most cases, and it is not very widespread.
