Libyan lawyers condemn apprehension of their colleague in Kuifiya demanding his immediate and unconditional release.

  Tripoli, 15 May 2022 (Lana) The General Bar Association and its branches in Libya on Sunday staged a vigil in protest against the apprehension of a member Adnan Abdel Kader Al-Orefi, who has been detained since Last Thursday in The Kuifiya prison in Benghazi.

A member of the Benghazi Bar Association, who asked not to be named, said that the arrest of the "Al Orefi" was carried out in connection with civil corruption cases, which he filed against the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Libya Ali Salem Al-Habry, whose property was seized.

The union member explained in a call with the Libyan news agency that the Al Orefi colleague was taken by members of the Internal Security Service in execution of instructions from the head of the services.

The Benghazi Bar Association published a statement on its SMS page saying that (the General Bar Association condemns in the strongest terms the arrest of lawyer "Adnan Al-Orefi" outside the law, and considers it a coercive disappearance in violation of the most basic human rights, because the responsible body that carried out these orders in were in the service of some people and agendas obtained permission to investigate him, and that the union rejects this act, which is a crime in itself that the security authorities in the city of Benghazi and specifically the security apparatus are fully responsible for what is happening to lawyer Adnan and confirms that it is taking legal action against those responsible for his arrest and disappearance and will file a complaint with the competent authorities, and the attorney general's office and is in contact with lawyers in the Benghazi syndicate and all sub-unions to take the necessary measures on this crime and escalate the situation and demand his immediate release.

Meanwhile, Adnan Al-Orefi's brother Siddiq said Sunday in an interview with Lana that he had contacted his brother, who is in Kuifiya prison in accordance with internal security instructions, and that he was in a good condition.
