Al Lafi receives Italy's envoy, appreciates its commitment to support Libya's political track.

 Tripoli, 24 January 2022 (Lana) Presidential Council Vice President Abdullah Al-Lafi received on Monday morning the Italian envoy Nicolas Orlando, who was accompanied by his country's Ambassador to Libya Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi,.

The Italian envoy affirmed, at the meeting, that his government was closely following events in Libya and was committed to its stability in a positive way for the two friendly countries.

The envoy said his country ‘respects Libyan sovereignty and looks forward to the outcome of the amendments to the roadmap that Parliament is preparing to prepare for the elections.’

  He reiterated his country's desire to help Libya move out of the transition state to electing a president agreed by the Libyan people, praising the presidential council's efforts to launch the national reconciliation project.

For his part, the Vice President praised Italy's keenness to support the Libyan political track, stressing the desire of the Libyan people to hold elections despite their failure and looking forward to the road map that parliament is preparing, which must be full of specific dates from the electoral process to the hand-over of of power.

Al-Lafi stressed the importance of the national reconciliation project launched by the Presidential Council and its keenness to hold presidential elections this year.
