Italian Prime Minister: Italy strongly supports the political transition in Libya and reconciliation.

Rome, December 3, 2021 (LANA) - Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said, that Italy strongly supports the process of political transition and reconciliation in Libya, noting that the Paris Conference held last November 12, chaired by Italy, France, Germany, Libya and the United Nations, ‘’emphasized the unity of the international community around this goal’’.

    Addressing today, Friday, the (Mediterranean Dialogues) conference in Rome, Draghi stressed that a Libyan-led process alone can lead to a complete and lasting solution to the crisis in the country.

 The Italian news agency AKI quoted the Italian Prime Minister as saying, that we are now approaching the December 24 elections, a decisive event for the Libyan citizens and the future of democracy in the country, reiterating the call that the elections be “free, fair and credible,” noting that only in this way. Libyan institutions will be strong and democratically legitimate. And this facilitates the withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign fighters” from the country.
