Deputy President of the European Commission confirms the readiness of the European Union to provide all support to Libya to facilitate the holding of free and fair presidential and parliamentary elections.

Brussels, November 26, 2021 (LANA) - At the conclusion of the session of talks he held with officials in the European Union in Brussels, the Deputy President of the Presidential Council, Musa Al-Koni, met the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Deputy President of the European Commission, Josip Borrell, who welcomed al-Koni and blessed the efforts of the Council to hold the elections on time.

 Borrell affirmed the European Union's readiness to provide all support to facilitate the holding of free and fair presidential and parliamentary elections. Announcing the upcoming deployment of the European Union Electoral Expert Mission to Libya ahead of the December 24 elections.

 The Vice-President of the Commission reiterated to Al-Koni the European Union's support for efforts to achieve the withdrawal of all foreign mercenaries, fighters, unarmed actors and other foreign forces from Libya. He stressed that Libya has a clear opportunity to build a stable and prosperous future, and that the European Union is ready to provide the necessary support at this critical juncture for the country.

 The High Representative discussed with al-Koni the immediate challenges, and the long-term opportunities for cooperation between the European Union and Libya. In this regard he paused carefully to explain how keen the European Union is to find the most effective ways to support cooperation between Libya and its neighbors in the Sahel to improve border management.

  He also affirmed that Libya is an important partner for the Union, which looks forward to more participation in a bilateral dialogue on peace, reconstruction, and stabilization in the country and throughout the region.
